Different methods of affecting the crystals are used. The most widespread ways for changing the color of the crystals are the following:
• Irradiation
• Implantation of ions
• Thermal treatment in different gaseous media
• Thermochemical treatment
In a number of cases the best results are obtained using a combination of the above methods.
